About Dikili
Dikili is one of Izmir’s northernmost coastal districts, set on a long shoreline facing the island of Lesbos and a wide farming plain. The long sandy beach and pier in front of the town, the island-dotted Bademli coves, the small peninsula of Candarli Castle to the south and the hot springs at Nebiler are its best-known places. The acropolis of ancient Pergamon (Bergama) and the Asklepion lie inland, half an hour away. The sea is shallow along the coast and the wind keeps summers fresh.
Accommodation is in family guesthouses, small hotels, summer houses in Bademli and Candarli and campsites; there are few large resorts. Families after a beach away from the crowds, culture travellers visiting Pergamon, campers and nature lovers, and long-stay summer residents are typical visitors. Pergamon is 30 minutes away, Candarli 25 minutes and Ayvalik 50 minutes.
From the airport the route runs north via the Izmir ring road and then the Izmir–Canakkale road or the North Aegean motorway; after the Aliaga and Bergama junctions Dikili is reached in about 140 km / 130 minutes. The road is mostly flat dual carriageway, with a two-lane coastal road for the final section. As it is a long drive, a stop can be made on request. Hotels and summer houses are reached door to door; for complexes in Bademli a location pin is recommended. A minibus suits large families. Aliaga, the Candarli turn-off and Bergama lie on the way.
