About Bozburun

Bozburun is a small town near the tip of the peninsula stretching south-west of Marmaris, facing the Greek island of Symi. It is the centre of wooden gulet building in Turkey, and the boatyards on the shore still produce boats by hand. The town is also known for thyme honey, olive oil and almonds. The municipal pier and small marina, the traces of ancient Larymna above the town, and Kizilada and Sogut Bay, reached by boat, are the targets of day trips. The shore is pebbly and rocky; people swim from piers rather than a sandy beach.

Accommodation is in guesthouses, small boutique hotels and stone villas on the surrounding hills; hotel capacity is limited, so most guests stay in villas. Sailing enthusiasts, boat owners, couples who put the sea and silence first, and families wanting a summer away from crowds are the typical visitors. The villages of Selimiye, Sogut and Taslica are a short drive away, and seasonal boat services run to Symi. Nightlife is limited to a few restaurants around the pier.

Transfer note

From Dalaman Airport the route to Bozburun is motorway as far as Marmaris, then a narrow, winding coast-and-mountain road running the length of the peninsula via Hisaronu and Selimiye; about 157 km / 145 minutes. The last section has many bends, so a short stop can be planned for anyone prone to car sickness. Hotels and villas are reached door to door; on the steep tracks up to hillside villas the driver will carry luggage if needed. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for boat groups and families with lots of luggage. Selimiye is 15 minutes away and Marmaris 60 minutes.
