About Bitez
Bitez is the next bay after Gumbet, west of Bodrum town, and the peninsula village associated with tangerine groves. Because the bay catches a steady, gentle breeze it has long been the home of windsurfing schools, while its shallow sandy beach also suits small children. Bitez village behind the beach, with its stone houses, summer market and footpaths running between the gardens, has a character of its own apart from the shore. The restaurants along the seafront are known for their piers built out over the water. Bodrum Castle and the bazaar are ten minutes away by car.
Accommodation is in mid-range and upper boutique hotels, family hotels with gardens, apartments and villas in the village; large all-inclusive resorts are few. Families with small children, people who want to learn windsurfing, couples avoiding crowds and anyone who wants to be close to Bodrum but sleep quietly choose Bitez. It is away from the nightlife of Gumbet and calmer and greener than Bodrum. Ortakent, Yahsi and Yalikavak are nearby trips to the west, and dolmus services to Bodrum run frequently.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Bitez is reached by continuing along the Bodrum ring road, about 44 km / 45 minutes; the road is dual carriageway and comfortable. The descent to the bay begins with a short hill after Gumbet, and the ring-road junctions can slow on summer evenings. Hotels and villas are reached door to door; the garden lanes in the village are narrow, so with larger vehicles the driver carries luggage. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for guests travelling with surf equipment and for large families. Gumbet is 5 minutes away and Bodrum centre 10 minutes.
