About Olympos
Olympos is an ancient Lycian city in the Kumluca district, spread along both banks of a stream that reaches the sea through a narrow valley. The ruins lie scattered among pine and bay trees; the path following the stream passes the theatre, baths and necropolis before reaching the pebble beach. The beach continues north as Cirali beach and is protected as a nesting site for loggerhead turtles. On the hill above, the flames of Yanartas have burned for centuries, fed by natural gas seeping from cracks in the rock.
Accommodation is in the tree-house and bungalow guesthouses of the valley; there are no hotels or resorts, and as the area is a protected site no new building is allowed. The scene suits young travellers, backpackers, walkers and rock climbers, and evenings are spent eating in the shared areas of the guesthouses. Cirali can be reached on foot along the beach, Adrasan by car in 30 minutes.
From Antalya Airport the D400 coastal road passes Kemer and Tekirova before the Olympos turn-off drops into the valley; the last 10 km or so after the junction are a narrow, steep and winding mountain road. The whole journey is about 92 km / 90 minutes. Your driver takes you to the guesthouse door; in the lower valley the road can be unsurfaced, so large vehicles move slowly. A saloon or minivan is enough for small groups. Cirali and Adrasan are the neighbouring stops.
