About Urla
Urla is a district on the southern shore of the bay between Izmir and Cesme, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Art Street, where old stone houses have become galleries, workshops and cafes, Quarantine Island at the pier and the olive-oil workshop remains of ancient Klazomenai are its best-known places. The wineries scattered inland are known as the Urla Vineyard Route, with tastings and vineyard visits all year. Compared with Cesme it has a quieter, more settled small-town feel.
Accommodation is in boutique hotels on wine estates, small guesthouses near the pier and detached villas among the olive trees. Wine and food lovers, couples on a weekend break, visitors to the art workshops and families who want to stay away from the Cesme crowds choose Urla. Cesme and Alacati are 35–40 minutes away, Seferihisar and Sigacik 30 minutes and central Izmir 40 minutes.
From the airport you join the Izmir ring road and then the Izmir–Cesme motorway, leaving at the Urla exit, about 60 km / 60 minutes. The road is flat dual carriageway; only in the evening rush hour does traffic slow between Balcova and Guzelbahce. Vineyard houses and village villas can be on narrow unpaved lanes, so sharing a location pin is recommended; the vehicle comes to the door. A minibus suits wine boxes and extra luggage. The Guzelbahce and Seferihisar turn-offs lie on the same route.
