About Akyarlar
Akyarlar is an old fishing village at the south-western tip of the Bodrum peninsula, just south of Turgutreis; its old name is Kefaluka. It is the closest point on the peninsula to the island of Kos, and the peninsula's only lighthouse stands on Huseyin Point at the end of the village. The village bay with its small pier and the shallow, white-sand Akyarlar beach just to the east are the swimming spots, while Fener Bay to the west is the well-known base for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The village centre has fish restaurants, a small mosque and old stone houses. The wind here is frequent and steady.
Accommodation consists of a few large all-inclusive resorts, boutique hotels near the bay and sea-view villas on the hills. Families with children seeking a calm beach and shallow sea, wind-sports enthusiasts and couples who want to stay away from the busy centre choose Akyarlar. The bazaar, marina and Saturday market of Turgutreis are a few minutes away, Bodrum centre 40 minutes. The day ferry to Kos leaves from Turgutreis, and Gumusluk and Karaincir beach are short trips.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Akyarlar is reached via the Bodrum ring road and the main Turgutreis road, then a short coastal road south from Turgutreis down to the village; about 64 km / 65 minutes. The road is mostly dual carriageway and comfortable; the last five kilometres are single-lane and winding. Hotels and villas are reached door to door, and in the narrow village lanes the driver carries luggage rather than forcing a large vehicle through. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for guests with surf gear and for large families. Turgutreis is 10 minutes away and Gumusluk 25 minutes.
Hotel pickup
Your driver waits at the hotel, villa or marina entrance at the booked time with a sign showing your name. For villas without a reception he comes to the door; please be ready 10 minutes before pickup. For international flights we suggest pickup about 5 h 45 min before departure, so you are at the airport 2 hours early.
