About Alacati
Alacati is a former Greek town on the southern shore of the peninsula, part of Cesme district and about 10 km east of the centre. The stone houses with painted doors along Kemalpasa Street, the windmills, the cafes on cobbled lanes and the Herb Festival held every April have made the town well known. The shallow, windy Alacati Bay to the south is Turkey’s best-known windsurfing and kitesurfing area, and Port Alacati marina sits at the inner end of the bay. Unlike Cesme town there is no castle or large beach here; the focus is the streets and the bay.
Accommodation is mostly in boutique hotels and guesthouses converted from stone houses, villas with gardens around the town and residences near Port Alacati; there are no large resorts. Typical visitors are couples spending their time in cafes and restaurants, younger guests coming for the surf schools, Izmir residents on a weekend break and anyone after a calm street atmosphere. Cesme town and Ilica are 10 minutes away, the Aya Yorgi and Altinkum beaches 15 minutes.
From the airport you take the Izmir–Cesme motorway and, after the Alacati exit, a short link road into town, about 96 km / 95 minutes on a flat road without bends. On summer weekends the motorway exit and the approach to the town slow down. As the stone lanes in the centre are pedestrianised, the driver pulls up on the street nearest your hotel and the last few metres may be on foot with luggage; sharing the address in advance saves time. A minibus with a large boot suits guests carrying surf equipment. Cesme and Ilica are a few minutes further along the same road.
