About Kestel

Kestel is a neighbourhood 8 km east of Alanya centre, built on both sides of the point where the Dim River flows into the sea. Its beach is a calm mix of sand and shingle, and the coastal path can be walked via Oba to Alanya harbour. The Dim River valley begins just north of the neighbourhood, with the riverside restaurants and Dim Cave 15 minutes away. Kestel's centre is small, with a supermarket, pharmacy and a few restaurants; the shopping centres of Alanya are 10 minutes by minibus. It is the place for those who want to stay away from the noise of the city yet close to it.

Accommodation is medium and large hotels along the shore and, in the back streets, apartment complexes where many expats also live. It suits families wanting a calm beach, couples on longer stays and walkers who want to be near the Dim River; there is no nightlife, for that you go into the centre. Alanya Castle, Cleopatra Beach and Damlatas Cave take half a day; Sapadere Canyon is 40 minutes to the north-east.

Transfer note

From Gazipasa-Alanya airport the coast road through Kargicak and Mahmutlar is about 38 km / 40 minutes; from Antalya airport it is 133 km / around 2 hours 15 minutes on the D-400 through Alanya centre. The Gazipasa road follows the shore and is flat apart from a few gentle bends east of Alanya; from the Antalya side, the passage through Alanya is slow on summer evenings. Hotels lie between the highway and the sea, so you are taken door to door; for apartment complexes please give the building number and block name. Oba is 4 km away and Mahmutlar 5 km.
