About Dalaman
Dalaman is the district town that gives the airport its name; it sits on a flat agricultural plain surrounded by citrus groves. It feels more like a local town than a holiday resort: along the main street you find banks, pharmacies, supermarkets and restaurants, and there is a state hospital and a bus station. The upper reaches of the Dalaman river, north of the town, are used for rafting; to the south there are quiet, pine-fringed coves such as Sarsala Bay.
Accommodation consists of town hotels and a few small guesthouses; there are no resorts. Most visitors choose Dalaman for a night before an early morning flight, to rest after a late arrival, or for business and hospital visits. During the day a short trip to nearby Sarıgerme beach or Dalyan is easy; the town holds a weekly market.
The road from the airport to the town centre is completely flat and urban, about 6 km / 10 minutes. All hotels are reached door to door, there are no narrow streets and any vehicle type is suitable. For Sarsala Bay the last stretch is a narrow, winding forest road, so a smaller vehicle is preferable. Göcek is 20 minutes away, Ortaca 15 minutes and Dalyan 30 minutes; from the bus station you can connect to coaches for Fethiye and Marmaris.
