About Marmaris
Marmaris sits in a sheltered bay of the Gulf of Gokova and is the largest resort town in the region. Because it is ringed by pine-covered mountains, the sea is calm on most days. The castle with the old bazaar of narrow lanes around it, Netsel Marina and the long seafront promenade make up the centre of town; nightlife is concentrated on Bar Street.
Accommodation comes in every size, from large hotels to apartments and guesthouses; the Siteler district is known for its long beach and row of hotels. Day boats go to Sedir Island, the coves around Cennet Island and Turunc; blue-cruise gulet trips leave from here and from Bozburun. Families, groups of young people and couples on a short break are all equally at home here.
The journey is about 92 km / 85 minutes. The road is flat and dual carriageway as far as Koycegiz; after that there is a winding climb through forest and a descent into Marmaris. Your vehicle takes you to the door of your hotel or apartment; no walking is needed except for a few pedestrian streets inside the old bazaar. A minibus is recommended for larger groups and plenty of luggage. Icmeler and Turunc are close enough to continue along the same road.
