About Turunc
Turunc lies in a small bay closed in by slopes on both sides, beyond a ridge crossed by a steep mountain road from Icmeler. Once a fishing village, it still keeps a village scale: a single seafront road, restaurants along the beach and houses with gardens behind. On the hill to the north are the theatre and walls of Amos, an ancient colony of Rhodes.
Accommodation is made up of small hotels, apartments and villas on the slopes; there is no large resort. The beach is mixed sand and pebble and the sea gets deep quickly. The neighbouring bay of Kumlubuk can be reached on foot or by boat; water taxis and dolmus run to Marmaris. It attracts couples looking for quiet, walkers and anyone who wants to explore the nearby coves by boat.
The journey is about 108 km / 110 minutes. It is comfortable as far as Marmaris and Icmeler; the last 10 km is a steep mountain pass with sharp bends, which passengers prone to car sickness should know in advance. Your vehicle goes down into the village and to your door; the seafront road is narrow, so larger vehicles move slowly past the restaurants. A saloon car suits small groups, a minibus larger families. Icmeler and Marmaris are convenient stops on the way back.
