About Seferihisar
Seferihisar is a district south-west of Izmir set among tangerine orchards and olive groves, and Turkey’s first town to receive the Cittaslow (slow city) title. Sigacik castle and marina, the ancient city of Teos with its Temple of Dionysus and theatre, the Akkum and Ekmeksiz beaches and the village markets where local producers set up stalls are its best-known places. The district centre lies a few kilometres inland; beach holidays are spent on the Sigacik, Akarca and Urkmez shores.
Accommodation is in small boutique hotels, guesthouses, village houses and villas in holiday complexes; there are few large resorts. Couples after a slow-paced holiday, surfers heading for Akkum, families who enjoy local produce and village breakfasts and anyone wanting a coast close to Izmir choose Seferihisar. Urla is 30 minutes away, Gumuldur and Ozdere 20–25 minutes, and Selcuk and Ephesus 60 minutes.
From the airport the route runs south-west on the provincial road via Menderes, taking a short inland link rather than the Degirmendere coast, about 40 km / 45 minutes. The road is two-lane with gentle bends and no motorway; on summer weekends the beach approaches slow down. Hotels and complexes are reached door to door; in narrow village lanes the driver stops at the nearest suitable point. A minibus suits large families and surf gear. Sigacik is 10 minutes away and the Gumuldur turn-off lies on the same route.
