About Selcuk
Selcuk is a small district town south of Izmir, where the Kucuk Menderes plain opens to the sea, and the gateway to ancient Ephesus. Ephesus with its Library of Celsus and Great Theatre, the House of the Virgin Mary on Mount Bulbul, the Temple of Artemis with its single standing column, the Basilica of St John on Ayasuluk Hill and the Ephesus Museum all lie within the district. The Saturday market and the wine village of Sirince are also frequent stops.
Accommodation is in boutique hotels, family guesthouses and stone houses converted into hotels in Sirince; for a beach holiday the Pamucak shore is 10 minutes away. Culture travellers wanting to explore Ephesus in depth, pilgrims visiting the House of the Virgin Mary, couples seeking a quiet night in Sirince and cruise passengers who arrive in Kusadasi and extend their tour are typical guests. Kusadasi is 20 minutes away, Pamucak 10 minutes and Sirince 15 minutes.
From the airport you join the Izmir–Aydin motorway and, after Torbali, take the Selcuk exit into town, about 50 km / 50 minutes. The road is entirely motorway and dual carriageway, flat and without bends, and traffic usually flows. Hotels are reached door to door; in Sirince the narrow lanes beyond the village entrance mean the driver stops at the village square. A minibus or midibus suits groups planning tours of the archaeological sites. Torbali and Belevi lie on the same route.
