About Antalya
Antalya is the largest city on Turkey's Mediterranean coast and the region's centre for administration, shopping and transport; the Muratpasa district covers the historic core. The Old Town of Kaleici on top of the cliffs, the Roman Hadrian's Gate, the Seljuk Yivli Minaret, the old yacht harbour and Cumhuriyet Square are all within walking distance of each other. The Antalya Museum, Karaalioglu Park and Duden Waterfall, which drops straight into the sea at the eastern edge of the city, are the most visited sights; Konyaalti and Lara beaches form the city's two flanks.
Accommodation ranges from boutique and mansion hotels in the Old Town to business hotels and rental apartments in the centre; resort-style hotels are on the Lara and Konyaalti sides. The city suits couples on a cultural break, families wanting shops and transport at hand, and conference and business travellers. Perge, Aspendos, Termessos and Kursunlu Waterfall are easy day trips.
From the airport the city centre is reached along wide boulevards via Serik Caddesi and Aspendos Bulvari, about 12 km / 20 minutes; the journey can take longer at rush hour and on summer evenings. Your driver takes you to the hotel or apartment door; as vehicle access to the Old Town is restricted, the car stops at the nearest gate and the hotel is a short walk, with hotel staff helping with luggage. A saloon is enough for small groups, while larger families may prefer a minivan. Lara and Kundu are 10 minutes away, Konyaalti 15 minutes.
