About Gulluk
Gulluk is a harbour town in the Milas district on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Gulluk, north of the Bodrum peninsula. The airport lies right beside the town, so aircraft come in over the gulf. The town is known for its commercial port, fishing harbour and the fish restaurants lined along the seafront; the sea bream and sea bass from the gulf are famous in the region. Ancient Iasos on the opposite shore, its ruins intertwined with the village of Kiyikislacik and its small museum, is the main excursion, reached by boat or road. North of the town stretch sandy Gulluk beach and the shore road.
Accommodation is in a few mid-range hotels, seafront apartments, guesthouses and holiday villas in coastal estates; there are no large resorts. Families looking for a local coastal town, travellers with early or late flights who want to stay near the airport, people coming for the fish restaurants and anyone wanting to visit Iasos and Lake Bafa choose Gulluk. Bodrum centre is 45 minutes away and Milas town 20 minutes; Lake Bafa and ancient Herakleia lie 45 minutes to the north.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Gulluk is reached by turning off at the Gulluk junction straight after the airport exit, about 12 km / 20 minutes; it is the shortest transfer in the region, on a flat road with no traffic. Hotels, apartments and villas are reached door to door; in the narrow streets around the harbour the driver carries luggage a short distance rather than forcing a large vehicle through. A standard saloon is sufficient for most guests; a minibus-class vehicle is recommended for large families. Milas is 20 minutes away, Bodrum 45 minutes and Iasos 20 minutes.
