About Oren
Oren is a coastal town in the Milas district on the north shore of the Gulf of Gokova, directly across the water from the Bodrum peninsula. The town is built over the ancient Carian city of Keramos; city walls, temple remains and sarcophagus fragments can be seen between the streets. Its three-kilometre pebble beach, the pine forest behind it and the deep blue water of Gokova make it one of the least developed shores in the region. Akbuk Bay to the east and Cokertme Bay to the west are the day-trip spots. In summer the market on the town square and the promenade are the centre of social life.
Accommodation is in small family hotels, guesthouses, seafront apartments and holiday villas on the surrounding hills; there are no large establishments and it is entirely removed from the crowds of Bodrum. Families wanting a quiet seaside holiday, lovers of ancient sites and nature walks, couples touring with their own car and anyone seeking budget accommodation choose Oren. Milas town and Becin Castle are 50 minutes away, Bodrum centre 75 minutes; Akyaka and the eastern end of Gokova take 60 minutes.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Oren is reached by heading south via Milas on a winding mountain road through pine forest that descends to Gokova in its final section, about 60 km / 60 minutes. The road is dual carriageway as far as Milas; beyond that it is single-lane and quiet, though the descent has many bends. Hotels and villas are reached door to door, and as the streets in town are narrow the driver carries luggage if needed. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for large families. Milas is 50 minutes away and Bodrum 75 minutes.
