About Kas
Kas is a small harbour town at the southern tip of the Teke peninsula, where the mountains drop straight into the sea. The theatre of ancient Antiphellos stands just west of town, and a Lycian sarcophagus sits in the middle of the bazaar. Across the water is the Greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo), with a daily ferry from the harbour. It is one of the best-known diving spots in Turkey, with many dive schools.
Accommodation is small hotels and guesthouses in town and villas with views on the Cukurbag peninsula. There is no sandy beach; you swim from platforms and from the coves of Kucukcakil and Buyukcakil. The sunken city of Kekova, Kaputas beach, Limanagzi cove and the nearby stages of the Lycian Way are what most visitors do. It draws divers and walkers, couples and families who want a calm holiday.
The journey is about 150 km / 135 minutes, one of the longest routes from Dalaman. There is a mountain road as far as Kalkan, then a winding coastal road above the sea, and the views make the trip easier. Streets in town are narrow and steep and the centre is pedestrianised, so you are dropped at the nearest point to your hotel. For villas on Cukurbag the vehicle goes to the door. A comfortable vehicle is recommended for the long drive, a minibus for larger groups. Kalkan and Patara are on the route.
