About Fethiye
Fethiye is the main town at the inner end of the gulf, and it lives year-round rather than only in summer. The marina and the long seafront promenade, the old stone lanes of the Paspatur bazaar, the fish market and the Amyntas rock tombs carved into the cliff just above town are its best-known spots. The large Tuesday market draws people from the surrounding villages; the Fethiye Museum and the ancient theatre are a short walk from the centre.
Accommodation is a mix of town hotels, apartments and villas looking over the gulf. From here Oludeniz, Kayakoy, Saklikent and the 12 Islands boat trips are all easy to reach, and the promenade and bazaar are busy in the evening. It suits families who want shops and transport close by, couples on a short stay and groups starting a gulet cruise.
The road from the airport is dual carriageway and mostly flat, passing through the Gocek tunnel, about 47 km / 45 minutes. Town traffic slows on summer evenings; your driver takes you to the hotel or apartment door. A minibus is recommended for larger groups and for anyone heading to a boat with lots of luggage. Gocek and Calis are on the way.
