About Bodrum
Bodrum is a large holiday region spread across an entire peninsula in the southern Aegean. The Castle of St Peter in the centre houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology; the two bays beside it, the marina and the whitewashed houses draped in bougainvillea define the look of the town. The remains of the Mausoleum of ancient Halicarnassus and the theatre are within walking distance of the centre. On the peninsula every bay has its own character.
Accommodation ranges widely, from boutique hotels in the centre to the big hotels of Gumbet and Bitez, the luxury properties of Turkbuku and Yalikavak and the quiet guesthouses of Gumusluk. Nightlife is in the centre and Gumbet, the marina and shopping in Yalikavak, sunset fish restaurants in Gumusluk. Blue-cruise gulet trips leave from Bodrum harbour. Families, couples and groups of every budget come here.
The journey is about 210 km / 180 minutes, the longest route from Dalaman; since Bodrum has its own airport, this transfer is mostly for passengers whose flights land at Dalaman. The road runs via Mugla and Milas and is dual carriageway and mostly flat, with only a short climb at the approach to Mugla. In the centre and the peninsula villages the vehicle goes to your door; in the pedestrianised bazaar streets of the centre a short walk may be needed. A comfortable vehicle is recommended for the long drive, a minibus for larger groups; you can ask for a break in Mugla on the way.
