About Gumusluk
Gumusluk is a fishing village on the west coast of the Bodrum peninsula, built over the ruins of the ancient city of Myndos. As it is a protected archaeological site, no tall buildings have been allowed and the village has stayed small and low. Rabbit Island at the end of the bay is reached by wading knee-deep along the submerged ancient road. The fish restaurants lined along the shore, their piers extending the tables right to the water's edge in the evening, hold a special place around Bodrum. The village hosts classical music festival concerts throughout summer; its art workshops and Wednesday market are also well known.
Accommodation is mostly small boutique hotels, guesthouses converted from stone houses and villas overlooking the bay; the large resort lies outside the village on the hill side. Couples seeking a calm, cultural holiday, people who come for sunset and dinner, art and music followers and families avoiding crowds choose Gumusluk. Yalikavak to the north and Turgutreis to the south are 15 minutes away, Bodrum centre 35 minutes. Watching the sunset from the west-facing bay is the village's daily ritual.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Gumusluk is reached via the Bodrum ring road and the main Turgutreis road, turning west at the Gurece junction, about 66 km / 65 minutes. The main road is dual carriageway and comfortable; the descent into the village is short and winding. Vehicle access into the village and the seafront restaurant area may be restricted in summer, so the driver pulls up at the nearest car park and luggage is carried a short distance. Hillside villas are reached door to door. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for large groups. Yalikavak is 15 minutes away and Turgutreis 15 minutes.
