About Gundogan
Gundogan is a wide, sheltered bay on the north coast of the Bodrum peninsula between Yalikavak and Turkbuku; its old name is Farilya. Apostol Island at the mouth of the bay holds the remains of a Byzantine church and is reached by boat, while Little Apostol at the western end and the Peynir Cicegi Cave on the shore are on the walking routes. The promenade running several kilometres along the shore, sandy-pebble beaches and restaurants with piers define daily life in the bay. The sea is shallow and still, and the north wind cools the afternoons. The Friday market and tangerine groves preserve the old face of the village.
Accommodation is in boutique hotels overlooking the bay, family hotels with gardens, apartments and sea-view villas on the hills either side of the bay; large all-inclusive resorts are few. Families with children wanting a calm bay and shallow sea, large groups renting villas and couples who like the north of the peninsula but want to stay away from the luxury of Yalikavak choose Gundogan. The beach clubs of Turkbuku are 10 minutes away, Yalikavak Marina 15 minutes and Bodrum centre 30 minutes. Canoeing and stand-up paddling are common in the bay's shallow water.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Gundogan is reached by the northern peninsula road through Torba and Turkbuku, about 42 km / 45 minutes; the Bodrum ring road and Yalikavak road are the alternative. The road is dual carriageway and comfortable, with possible slowing through Turkbuku on summer evenings. Hotels and villas are reached door to door; hillside villas around the bay have steep, narrow roads, so the driver carries luggage if needed. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for large families. Turkbuku is 10 minutes away and Yalikavak 15 minutes.
