About Ortakent
Ortakent lies in the middle of the Bodrum peninsula and takes its name from that position; its old name is Musgebi, and inland the Ottoman-era Mustafa Pasa Tower and stone houses preserve that past. The seaward part is Yahsi beach, at about three kilometres the longest sandy beach on the peninsula, backed by tangerine groves and summer housing estates. The sea is shallow and sandy and the wind is lighter than at Bitez. Beach clubs, family restaurants and small marina jetties line the shore. A Saturday market is held in the village.
Accommodation covers a wide range: mid-range and upper hotels on the beach, a few large all-inclusive resorts, villas with gardens and holiday apartments in the village. Thanks to the long beach and shallow sea, families with children, large groups renting villas and people who want to be equally close to Bodrum town and the western bays choose Ortakent. Bitez, Gumbet and Bodrum lie to the east and Turgutreis and Yalikavak to the west, all within 15–20 minutes; dolmus services reach every part of the peninsula.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Ortakent is reached via the Bodrum ring road and then the main road towards Turgutreis, about 48 km / 50 minutes; the road is dual carriageway and flat, with short slopes on the way down into the village and to Yahsi beach. Hotels and villas are reached door to door; estate roads may have security gates and tight turns, so the driver carries luggage if needed. A minibus-class vehicle is recommended for large groups renting villas. Bitez is 7 minutes away and Bodrum centre 15 minutes.
