About Yalikavak
Yalikavak on the north-west coast of the Bodrum peninsula was once a fishing town living on sponge diving and has become the most upmarket address on the peninsula. Its landmark is Yalikavak Marina, which berths some of the largest yachts in the world and holds designer shops, restaurants and a weekly open-air market. The stone windmills on the hill above the town, the bays of Tilkicik and Kudur near the old centre and the beach clubs around them are the best-known spots. The Thursday market is one of the largest village markets on the peninsula. Facing north, it enjoys a cool breeze on summer evenings.
Accommodation is in five-star hotels, boutique hotels near the marina, luxury sea-view villas on the hills and apartments; all-inclusive resorts are few. Couples looking for luxury, yacht and marina guests, groups focused on beach clubs and dining, and families renting large villas choose Yalikavak. It is more expensive than Bodrum town but more orderly and calmer. Gundogan and Turkbuku to the east and Gumusluk to the south are within 15 minutes; Bodrum centre takes 30 minutes. The marina hosts concerts and events all summer.
From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Yalikavak is reached via the Bodrum ring road and the Yalikavak road turning north at the Ortakent junction, about 46 km / 50 minutes; the road is dual carriageway and comfortable, though traffic slows at the town entrance and around the marina on summer evenings. Hotels and villas are reached door to door; for marina guests the driver pulls up at the marina gate and marina crew carry luggage to the boat. Hillside villas have steep roads. A minibus or VIP-class vehicle is recommended for families with lots of luggage and yacht groups. Gumusluk is 15 minutes away and Bodrum centre 30 minutes.
