About Manavgat
Manavgat is a year-round district town east of Antalya, built on both banks of the river of the same name. Its best-known sight is the low but wide Manavgat Waterfall a few kilometres north of town; river boats depart from the town centre and run down to the sea. The large market held on Mondays and Thursdays fills with visitors from the surrounding resorts. To the north are the Oymapinar dam and Green Canyon, and further on the Koprulu Canyon National Park; the ancient city of Side lies 8 km to the south-west.
Accommodation is in town hotels and apartments, plus a few hotels near the river mouth; the big resorts are in the coastal villages around Side. It suits those who want shopping and a genuine working town, budget travellers and anyone wanting a central base for excursions. Side's beaches and the Sorgun forest are 15 minutes away, Alanya an hour and Aspendos 40 minutes.
From Antalya Airport to Manavgat takes about 79 km / 80 minutes along the D400 highway; congestion is possible through Serik and at the junctions on the edge of Manavgat. Hotels in the town centre are reached door to door; on market days central streets may be closed, in which case your driver stops at the nearest point. Standard saloon and minivan vehicles are sufficient, with a minibus recommended for large family groups. Belek, Colakli and Side lie along the way; Gazipasa-Alanya Airport is 100 km to the east.
