About Mahmutlar
Mahmutlar lies 12 km east of Alanya centre on the plain between the Taurus Mountains and the sea and is Alanya's most populous eastern district. The sand-and-shingle beach along the coast road is about 3 km long, with a wide promenade, cafes and playgrounds behind it. In the centre, the shops on Barbaros Street, the large Tuesday and Friday market and many restaurants stay open all year. The ancient city of Syedra, north of the district, overlooks the coast from its hilltop; the Dim River valley is 15 minutes away.
Accommodation is mainly apartments in complexes with pools; there are also medium-sized hotels on the seafront, but few large resorts. It suits long-stay expats, families holidaying in their own flat and groups who prefer an apartment to a hotel. The minibus to Alanya centre takes 25 minutes; the quiet coves of Gazipasa, Kargicak and the Dim River are nearby excursions, while Alanya Castle and Cleopatra Beach make a half-day trip.
From Gazipasa-Alanya airport the coast road through Kargicak is about 33 km / 35 minutes, which makes Mahmutlar one of the most convenient places for guests flying into Gazipasa; from Antalya airport it is 137 km / around 2 hours 20 minutes on the D-400 through Alanya centre. The Gazipasa road follows the shore and is flat apart from a few gentle bends; coming from Antalya, the passage through Alanya is slow on summer evenings.
